DC’s Cancelling Of Mark Russell’s Second Coming Not All It Seems

by Olly MacNamee

While other comic book news websites have covered this with haste, the cancelling of what would have been a Vertigo published book The Second Coming, is not as clean cut as it would seem. Over on Twitter creator Mark Russell has cleared up any misunderstanding by stating, amongst other things, that he asked for the rights back and DC/Vertigo were happy to go along with that request.

This will, no doubt, save DC any blushes but will also means that Second Coming will be published. Just not through Vertigo. And with Russell’s star in ascendence, I can’t imagine it will be too long before we see it finally on shelves. In fact, it’s one of the reasons – if you read through the Twitter thread – that Russell did ask for his baby back. That’s a win-win for everyone, if you ask me. Just not the detractors, I happy to report.

So, those who were zealous enough to go sign a 100, 000+ strong petition to cancel the comic may think they’ve won, they really haven’t. I mean, were any of these people going to even buy the book anyway? All they’ve done is delay the Second Coming. But, hey, we’ve already waited over 2,000 years. What’s an extra few months gonna do, right?

All clear now? If not, read Russell’s full thread on this matter here.
