Love Is The Ultimate Hostage Situation In Going To The Chapel

by James Ferguson

Having reimagined newspaper comic strips in Spencer & Locke, writer David Pepose has set his sights on the romantic comedy with Going to the Chapel, a new series coming in the Fall from Action Lab: Danger Zone. Illustrated by Gavin Guidry, with colors by Liz Kramer and letters by Ariana Maher, the series follows Emily Anderson on what should be the best day of her life. Things take a turn for the worse when a group of Elvis-themed bank robbers crash her wedding.

Writer David Pepose says:

Dating back to my catastrophic turn as best man for my oldest friend’s wedding, Going to the Chapel has been an irreverent passion project long in the making. Think Die Hard at a wedding — or Dog Day Afternoon meets The Runaway Bride. With our unique mashup of action, humor, romance, and heart — not to mention our sprawling, diverse, and downright dysfunctional cast — fans of romcoms and thrillers alike are going to find lots to love about our offbeat and eclectic series.

Pepose has a talent for describing his comics and after reading that outline, I am definitely in. I am ready to “say yes to distress.”

Artist Gavin Guidry adds:

Going to the Chapel offered some really exciting challenges for me as an artist, including a solid, singular setting and a huge cast to play with. Between the moments of action and comedy, our whole cast of characters were a blast for me to work with, and because our book touches upon so many different tastes and genres, I’m excited for folks to have a chance to read it.

Going to the Chapel will feature covers by Lisa Sterle, Maan House, and Gavin Guidry. Fans attending C2E2 this weekend will have a chance to check this out early as Pepose will have a con-exclusive variant of Lisa Sterle’s cover available at Table U-8.
