The Crew Is Reunited…Just Without Their Captain In Firefly #5 First Look

by James Ferguson

Firefly has rocketed back into our lives with an epic ongoing series from Boom! Studios in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products. The publisher has revealed an early preview of Firefly #5, due out later this month from writer Greg Pak and artist Dan McDaid, with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon.

Firefly #5 finds the crew of the Serenity back together again and ready to face the ‘verse and never look back. That sounds like a great new beginning, except they left their captain behind. Mal has been captured by Boss Moon and he’s heading straight for the closest Alliance outpost where he’ll sit trial for his war crimes and most likely be executed. Their captain is behind bars, their engine is busted, and half the planet is on their tail, but that seems like a normal day for these folks.

Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, Boom! Studios says:

It’s always a wild ride with the crew of Serenity, but they do leave a bit of a trail throughout the ‘verse made up of people they’ve wronged and others who were collateral damage. Serenity is no stranger to grievances and murky pasts, but Mal and Zoe have always managed to pull their crew ahead of the trouble chasing them—until now. How do you escape from your own past?

Firefly #5 will feature a main cover by Lee Garbett and variant covers by Joe Quinones, W. Scott Forbes, and David Rubin. It’s scheduled for release on April 24th, 2019.
