FCBD 2019: Preview The Funny Pages From Rebellion

by Richard Bruton

Every year, the first Saturday in May is now Free Comic Book Day, a celebration of all things comics, where every major comic company puts out a free comic that you’ll be able to find at all participating comic shops (and most of them do participate!)

And just in case you don’t have a calendar handy… here’s a reminder of when that is…

We’ll be showing you special previews of many of the FCBD 2019 comics here at Comicon.com, but one comic that’s missing from the FCBD offerings this year is the 2000 AD FCBD Prog. Instead, we have a cavalcade of British comedy from The Treasury of British ComicsThe Funny Pages.

Now, the original plan was that 2000AD/Rebellion did submit 2 comics to the FCBD group, The Funny Pages and The 2000AD Villains Takeover Special. However, the FCBD group don’t always say yes to all publishers requests and, in this case, they approved The Funny Pages but said no thanks to the 2000AD Villains Takeover Special, which is why that’s coming out as a 99c/99p Special on FCBD weekend.

All of which leads us to this, our special Comicon.com preview of The Funny Pages, a collection of comic brilliance, the very best of Brit comedy comics that are part of Rebellion’s archive of British comic material. You’ve already seen the reworkings of many of these classic characters in the Cor!! & Buster Special, but now it’s time to have another great giggle with the originals, all for free, only at your local comic shop on Free Comic Book Day!

Inside, you’ll find material from Leo Baxendale, Ken Reid, Robert Nixon, Trevor Metcalfe, Mark Rogers, Martin Baxendale, Steve Bright, Mike Lacey, Reg Parlett, and Gordon Hogg.

Get ready to have your funny bone tickled with The Funny Pages, out on May 5th as part of Free Comic Book Day. Here’s our little preview…
