Comic Scene #4: The UK’s Comic Book Focused Print Periodical

by Olly MacNamee

Over here in the UK, one publisher is trying to buck the trend and produce, publish and distribute a newsstand print magazine focussing on comics. Called Comic Scene, the fourth issue is out this week and available throughout the weekend at MCM London (Stand N330).
Full from cover-to-cover with features, interviews and the odd comic strip too – this issue comes with a free 16 page comic book supplement, featuring Simon Furman and Geoff Senior’s new 10 part comic To The Death – from some of Britain’s top comic book journalists/bloggers, including our very own Richard Bruton.

Issue 4 includes Batman, Daredevil, X-Men, 2000AD, The Dark Judges, MACH 1, The Six Million Dollar Man, To The Death 16 Page Supplement, Comic Strips, indie comics, Lew Stringer on Roy Wilson, Magic Comic, Rebellion’s Keith Richardson on future plans from the publishers, Draculass, Gums, X-Men Dark Phoenix, Good Omens, Batman in the 60’s, new indie titles like Brawler, the Invincibles and Pat Mills new title Space Warp.

That’s a pretty packed periodical and one, most definitely, with a healthy inclusion of British comic book related features too. Not bad for £5.99. I’m hoping it get enough readers to stick around for a while.
Out Thursday, May 23rd and available at many retailers, including WH Smiths.
