To Take Down The Enchantress: Captain Marvel #6 Reviewed

Black Widow and the Winter Soldier have engaged the Enchantress and her undead army at Rio de Janeiro. Natasha tries to go in for the kill, but Enchantress rebuffs her. However, both Natasha and the Enchantress have a vision of the latter being taken down by Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and the Black Widow. Afterwards, Natasha retreats and goes to find Carol and Strange and bring them to Rio. However, the three of them are ambushed by Enchantress, and the sorceress finds a way to neutralize the threat that Doctor Strange represents.
Captain Marvel #6 is a War of the Realms tie-in focusing on Enchantress’ new dominion over South America. Carol’s War Avengers are working to unseat Amora, but she is one of the most powerful magic-wielders in the universe.
The story is straightforward–at first–and benefits a lot from being so. Black Widow sees that it’ll take Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel to take down Enchantress, so Natasha goes to find them.
Where the story gets less straightforward is in the big twist, and this is where we’ll be getting into spoiler territory–so you’ve been warned.
Enchantress swaps the bodies of Stephen Strange and Carol Danvers. Now Carol is in Strange’s body and vice versa, and neither knows how to use the other’s powers.
It’s a little odd that we’re back to body-swapping so soon after the climax of the first arc of Kelly Thompson’s Captain Marvel, where Carol briefly took control over Rogue’s body.
That said, it still ends up making for good comedy and a solid conflict, so I’m not upset about it.
Annapaola Martello is the guest artist on this comic, and she gives the book a fair amount of grit to match the war raging in the pages. Action and movement are flowing and kinetic too, and the costumes look as cool as ever. Color artist Tamra Bonvillain once again provides and appropriate palette to the comic, this time a lot of grays and browns offset by the occasional red, green, or blue. It looks good and is very fitting.
Captain Marvel #6 is another highly-entertaining issue for Thompson’s run. It’s another book that has been sucked up into War of the Realms, but Thompson, Martello, and Bonvillain make sure the comic still has the Carol Danvers charm. This one gets a recommendation. Feel free to check it out.
