Katherine McNamara To Be A Series Regular In Arrow’s Final Year
by Erik Amaya
The saga of Star City 2040 will continue.
TVLine reports Arrow Season 7 guest star Katherine McNamara has been promoted to series regular for the program’s eighth and final year. The Shadowhunters veteran first appeared last year as a mysterious cage-fighter in Star City’s future who turned about to be Mia Smoak, the daughter of Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). She had a grudge against vigilantes and the more famous members of her family. She even had a prolonged fight with her mother when she discovered she was operating as The Calculator. But by the end of the season, she was running with a new Team Arrow and even swinging from the Glades Wall like her father.
Joseph David-Jones, who plays the 2040 Connor Hawke, was also promoted to regular while the search has begun for an actor to play J.J. Diggle, the grown up son of John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson).
Curiously, Season 8 will begin with an episode called “Starling City” — the former name of Star City in the program’s early seasons. What this means for the characters in 2040 and 2019 remains to be seen. But considering Oliver is on a mission with the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), it is possible he will be headed to a time when that name had some currency.
Arrow returns October 15th on The CW.
