Paying A Visit To The Doctor In Ironheart #8
by Josh Davison
[*Mild Spoilers Ahead!]
Ironheart, Wasp, and Xavier debrief after shutting down Eclipse and the “zombie” outbreak. Riri lets Nadia and Xavier know what she’s learned about Midnight’s Fire and the Ten Rings before the Unstoppable Wasp departs to return to her own affairs. Afterwards, Ironheart leaves to get a consultation about the magic and mysticism that seems to be inherent in the Ten Rings and their methods. This leads Riri to the Sanctum Santorum and Doctor Strange. Unfortunately, Strange is dealing with a demonic incursion when Ironheart arrives.
Ironheart #8 finds Riri fighting evil with yet another guest star, this time the eponymous Doctor Stephen Strange. Much of the comic is dealing with the fallout of the previous issue with the Wasp, but the second half is almost entirely Riri and Strange.
Much of their discussion concerns the Wellspring of Power for which the Ten Rings search. In doing so, they reference and briefly show previous interactions with the Wellspring of Power had by the New Warriors and the Thunderbolts, two of my favorite and criminally underused Marvel teams.
Naturally, Doctor Strange is his usual impatient and condescending self in this issue; we’d be disappointed if he wasn’t. That said, he does admit to seeing great potential in Ironheart, whom of course doesn’t suffer Strange’s condescension.
It’s a fun issue for sure, and it is cool seeing Ironheart interact with more movers and shakers in the Marvel Universe.
Luciano Vecchio once again produces some great artwork Riri Williams and company. Ironheart herself looks as impressive as ever, and Doctor Strange looks rad in his spiffy new costume. Matt Milla’s color work pops off the page well, giving additional energy to this fast-moving comic.
Ironheart #8 is another compelling installment for Riri Willaims. She continues her investigation into the Ten Rings and Midnight’s Fire while she tries to grasp with the potential for evil Midnight’s Fire seemed to see in her. This one gets another recommendation for sure. Check it out.
Ironheart #8 comes to us from writer Eve L. Ewing, artist Luciano Vecchio with layouts from Geoffo, color artist Matt Milla, letterer VC’s Clayton Cowles, and cover artist Stefano Caselli and Matt Milla.
