Steven S. DeKnight Exits Netflix “Jupiter’s Legacy” Adaptation

Trouble appears to be brewing at Netflix’s first Milliarworld adaptation.
Variety reports Jupiter’s Legacy showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has exited the series due to the old “creative differences.” Based on the Mark Millar and Frank Quitely comic book series it is set in a world in which superheroes really did appear in the 1930s, but the story takes place nearly two generations later as the original heroes contemplate retirement and their children find leaving up to their parents’ legacies a more difficult burden then they ever imagined. The cast includes Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, Matt Lanter and Tenika Davis. According to the site, half the first season’s episodes have already been filmed, but it seems the creative differences were so extreme, DeKnight and his company are looking to exit from their overall Netflix deal early. He previously ran the first season of Daredevil for Netflix.
Jupiter’s Legacy will be the first television series to emerge from Netflix’s purchase of Millar’s Millarworld comic book company. The other television series, based on American Jesus, has not been cast while Reborn, one of the films on the Millarworld slate, is set to star Sandra Bullock.
It is still unclear when Jupiter’s Legacy will debut, but a safe guess would be the latter half of 2020.
