Hulu Passes On Marvel’s Ghost Rider

The Spirits of Vengeance are not happy.
Deadline reports the planned Ghost Rider television series at Hulu is not going forward due to creative differences between the streamer and the creative team. The project would’ve seen Gabriel Luna reprising his role as Robbie Reyes, a good kid from East L.A. who becomes inhabited by the Rider. When the Rider’s power takes control, both Robbie and his vintage Dodge Charger become converted into demonic entities seeking out the souls of the wicked. There was also some business about his uncle Eli and a few other things, but that was covered during Ghost Rider’s time on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
According to Deadline, the proposed Hulu series would’ve seen Robbie resurfacing on the Texas/Mexico border and still struggling to contain the power of the Rider while helping the innocent. The program was meant to start a Marvel horror line of programs on Hulu. Now, it will be up to the still in-development Helstrom to carry that flame. At the moment, it is unclear if Ghost Rider may find a new home elsewhere in the Disney family of services and cable outlets or its broadcast network ABC. Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb mentioned in August that plans were afoot for his division to produce Disney+ content, but Ghost Rider seems like an ill fit.
It is also possible the end of Ghost Rider on Hulu may be tied to rumors indicating Marvel Studios may have an interest in bringing the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider to the big screen.
Meanwhile, Hulu and Marvel TV are going forward with their planned series of animated programs and we hope Ghost Rider finds a new home.
