Into the Spider-Verse Sequel Set For 2022

Miles Morales returns to theaters on April 8th, 2022
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has set that date for the release of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. The first film, featuring the voices of Shameik Moore as Miles, Jake Johnson as a down-on-his luck Peter Parker, and Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, roared into theaters in late 2018 and earned a Best Animated Feature Oscar when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out awards earlier this year.
The film was a remarkable rethink of Sony’s Spider-Man and gave them the confidence to renegotiate their deal with Disney in regards to the use of Peter Parker in their films. It was also a sorely needed win after their last non-MCU Spidey film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, sank in public perception and nearly killed its plans for a cinematic universe.
Plot details will not be forthcoming for sometime, but one imagines the story will see Miles continue as his Earth’s Spider-Man, with the others reuniting to face a new threat. Alternatively, the film may make good on that crazy Spider-Man 2099 stinger scene. Or, crazier still, it may establish the MCU Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as part of the Spider-Verse once he comes home to Sony after the second Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and one other MCU appearance.
