Sophie Has Kate’s Number On The Next Batwoman
by Erik Amaya
As this week proved, Kate (Ruby Rose) is going to have a hard time hiding her identity from anyone who knows her. And as this preview of next week’s Batwoman indicates, Sophie (Meagan Tandy) may be the next person to discern the true name of Gotham’s new vigilante. But will she spill the beans to Jacob (Dougray Scott) and make Kate public enemy number one?
Meanwhile, the show’s slow evolution into a family drama is something we’re excited about. Fights and crimes may not be the program’s strong suit, but this exploration of an absolutely shattered family sets Batwoman apart from the other Arrowverse shows. It also gives the cast, particularly Skarsten, an opportunity to shine. Even Scott, who often seems loss in the ensemble, had a great moment when he finally accepted Alice is Beth. That mix of relief and guilt is the sort of thing we want to see as the cast learns one another’s secrets. Which means, it can’t be too long before everyone knows Kate is Batwoman. And considering the way Arrowverse shows work, keeping the secret for longer than 13 episodes is pretty silly.
Additionally, we can’t wait to see Mary (Nicole Kang) become a full-fledged member of Team Batwoman. She and Luke (Camrus Johnson) already make a wonderful pair of junior crime-fighters. Also, we’d be willing to ship them as they make such an unlikely couple. Although, we need that scene where she puts it all together. The moment she started helping Luke with the case, it seemed like it was headed in that direction. But maybe we’ll get their just ahead of the Crisis.
Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW.
