Black Lightning Faces The Resistance In A Preview Of Next Week’s Show
by Erik Amaya
It was only a matter of time before the Resistance came calling at Black Lightning’s (Cress Williams) door. And as this preview for next week’s episode reveals, Henderson (Damon Gupton) will finally ask Jefferson to take a side — but will it be the one he wants the hero to choose?
Meanwhile, it is interesting how the show’s Book system creates entry points every few episodes. This week, we had repeated restating of the stakes for the Pierce family, explanations of their deal with the ASA, and what it would mean if Black Lightning acted out of turn. We also saw Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Grace (Chantal Thuy) remind viewers about their history. Oh, and while we’re at it, Tobias (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) also reiterated his credentials and what he can offer Lynn (Christine Adams) going forward.
It’s an interesting way to structure a show for anyone new to the series, but it does leave longtime viewers feeling like the first part of new Books are spinning their wheels. At the same time, though, the episode made little attempt to re-establish Dr. Jace (Jennifer Riker) or Khalil (Jordan Calloway), which definitely made those threads a little more subtle.
Hopefully, the Resistance will prove partially successful before Jefferson leaves for the Crisis, but we expect the Occupation of Freeland will not end easily. Although, with Odell (Bill Duke) recuperating from that gunshot, the ASA will be off its footing for sometime.
Black Lightning airs Mondays on The CW.
