Operating A Dirty Mind: SFSX #3 Reviewed

We return to the Dirty Mind and figure out how Casey and Sylvia give orientation to new and returning customers while under the Party’s regime. Casey is projected onto a giant television and lays the ground rules through an intercom while Sylvia gives the tour. However, this particular tour is complicated when Denis, the IT expert for the Dirty Mind, discovers something that needs to be shown to Casey and Sylvia: Jones is still alive. She’s being used as the new poster child for the Party’s reeducation program.
SFSX #3 takes place before the end of last issue, as you may have gleaned. This issue shows us what the Dirty Mind has become while hiding from the Party, and it shows us how Sylvia and Casey learned about Jones still being alive.
That said, the vast majority of the comic is dedicated to showing us how the Dirty Mind functions ethically. It presents the wide range of kinks and tastes that the establishment serves and how it makes sure everyone’s consent and limits are respected.
It’s a nice bit of world-building, and it further fleshes out the characters of Sylvia, Casey, and Denis. I can’t say that it was all necessary to the main plot of SFSX, but I still enjoyed the writing. Plus, a bit of world-building and character development never hurt anyone.
Alejandra Gutierrez is the artist and colorist on this issue, and that brings a drastic aesthetic change this time around. The characters look softer, the detailing isn’t as extensive, and the coloring contrasts more. It looks good through most of the comic, but there are some panels that could have used more detailing. That said, the majority of the issue did look damn good.
SFSX #3 brings us into the operations of the Dirty Mind and how Casey and Sylvia run the place without Jones. It fleshes out the establishment and the people who run it, and it’s an overall entertaining and engaging issue. As a result, it gets a recommendation. Check it out.
