Dragon Quest: The Adventure Of Dai Anime Announced

by Sage Ashford

One of a small handful of announcements made at Jump Festa was a new adaptation of the classic, Dragon Quest: Adventure of Dai. The original series followed Dai, a young boy raised on an island of monsters where humans have become extinct. Dai is a young boy raised by a monster, but has dreams of becoming a hero, and he’s inspired to go out and defeat the being ruling over the world once he loses his father figure … and the person who trained him.
The series ended abruptly as an anime, but the manga kept going until finishing sometime in the late 1990s. With the series now complete at 349 chapters, it seems Toei is willing to try it again. Though it has gorgeous art, it remains to be seen if this is a sequel or a remake aiming to finish things with a decent ending.
During Jump Festa, the people in charge of Dragon Quest also mentioned a new video game coming, but declined to mention what systems it’s coming out for, so it’s a safe bet they’re talking about a cell phone title.
Dragon Quest: Adventures of Dai begins at the end of next year.
