Grey Goes Undercover (Again) In A Preview Of Next Week’s Stumptown

by Erik Amaya

Stumptown is back, and it seems Hoffman (Michael Ealy) is on the verge of cracking something big. But to do it, he must force Grey (Jake Johnson) into going undercover again to see how a Portland car theft ring has wider implications. Will Grey be tempted back into his old ways or will Ansel’s (Cole Sibus) presence in his life help him resist temptation?

One thing we love about Stumptown is its lower stakes. In last night’s episode, the key amount of money exchanged is $250,000 — which is minuscule in comparison to the sums the Lodges fight over on Riverdale or the impossible amounts traded in the Arrowverse. Instead, the meaning behind the cash — a brother’s love for his ne’er-do-well elder sibling — makes it all the more impactful.
And that’s been the key to Stumptown‘s pleasing difference in the comic book television landscape. It is telling grounded stories while basking in the silliness the PI format gives it. That makes it a nice respite from the world-shattering events in the superhero shows and the High Soap Opera antics of Riverdale.
Stumptown airs Wednesdays on ABC.
