DCYou Unscripted Reveals Top Three Finalists
by James Ferguson
DC Universe, the digital subscription service from DC featuring comics, TV shows, and films, is getting into the reality TV market. Last year during New York Comic Con, they began a search for unscripted series ideas under the header DCYou in conjunction with Ideas United. Over 1,100 submissions were received. Those have been boiled down to just three, as announced at the conclusion of two special episodes of DC Universe’s DC Daily. Check them out below:
- Molly Brady (Los Angeles): Three cosplayers will show off their craft and creativity as they compete for honor, glory, cash and prizes
- Royce Miller (Bridgewater, SD): Eight teams take on roles as hench persons to Gotham’s most notorious Rogues. Their goal? To escape the dreaded Blackgate Penitentiary and its new Warden. With enough mazes, puzzles, and traps to impress even the Riddler
- Elora Powell (Tigard, OR): Comic book fans travel to beloved comic book stores in local neighborhoods to investigate how these shops provide inclusive, fun communities for geeks in real life
Each of these pitch ideas will receive a pilot order to be produced and air on DC Universe later this Spring. One will receive a series order. This sounds like Shark Tank for content. I am curious about compensation and rights about these ideas (as well as all the submissions). In any case, we’ll get some more comic book focused reality TV content soon.
