TCAF 2020: Kamome Shirahama Added As Featured Guest
by James Ferguson
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is rapidly approaching on May 9th and 10th and it’s just added a great featured guest to the event: Japanese manga author Kamome Shirahama, the creator of Witch Hat Atelier. Her work can also be seen in Wonder Woman, Star Wars, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, Doctor Strange and more. Shirahama will debut the English-language release of Witch Hat Atelier Volume 6 at TCAF.
TCAF Artistic Director Christopher Butcher says:
Put simply, Kamome Shirahama’s art is impeccable. It’s no wonder that Shirahama-sensei became familiar to North American fans through her superhero comics work long before her manga was translated into English. That said, the Witch Hat Atelier manga series is such incredibly charming, deeply resonant work about the magic of art and illustration, and it’s found very deserved success amongst readers of all ages in both Japan and North America. We’re so lucky to have her as a part of TCAF this year!
TCAF has not yet revealed Shirahama’s full schedule, but fans can expect a live-drawing session, a feature interview, autograph sessions, and more. The event has also partnered with Kodansha Comics, the publisher of Witch Hat Atelier, to present a gallery showcasing Shirahama-sensei’s work to be exhibited at and in partnership with The Japan Foundation Toronto for the month of May. Details of this exhibit will be announced in March.
The Toronto Comics Art Festival 2020 will be held on Saturday May 9th from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Sunday May 10th from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge Street, Toronto, Canada) and at The Concert Hall (888 Yonge Street, Toronto Canada). It is free to attend. More information can be found at TorontoComics.com.
