Saving The Bat And Stopping The Blight: ‘Batman Beyond #41’ Reviewed

Constance brings the amnesiac Terry McGinnis to Blight’s facility with the promise of a new job and Terry is all too happy to take the opportunity. Unfortunately, Constance knows who Terry is now and she was once very close with Derek Powers. As such, she now intends to use Terry’s body as a new vessel for Blight. Back at Wayne Manor, Dick Grayson explains to Bruce, Matt, Barbara, and Melanie that Elainna, Dick’s daughter, is the new Batwoman. Little do they know that Elainna is making her next move against Blight as they speak, and she is Terry’s only hope for survival.
Batman Beyond #41 takes place in the aftermath of the grand revelation of Batwoman Beyond’s secret identity. It is Elainna Grayson, daughter of Dick Grayson, himself a former Robin, Nightwing, and Batman. She’s taken up the crusade and she’s fighting the good fight against Blight.
Dick swears that he tried to push Elainna away from this kind of lifestyle, but Barbara explains simply knowing about Dick’s past life as a superhero was probably enough for Elainna. Appropriately, Elainna was also in the armed services like original Batwoman Kate Kane.
This issue wraps quite a few of the plot threads that have been loose in the recent issues of Batman Beyond. That said, Blight is still at large by the end, so expect to see him in at least one or two more issues.
Sean Chen gives the book a well-detailed and appealing look, with the Batwoman Beyond costume continuing to look really damn cool. Blight is given a good treatment as well and the action scenes are easy to follow and cathartic. Sean Parsons inks it all skillfully and color artist Chris Sotomayor ensures the book has a contrasting and lively palette.
Batman Beyond #41 is another solid issue for this future DC series. The identity of Batwoman is in the open and she’s making her next decisive move against the villainous Blight. The book earns another recommendation with this issue. Feel free to check this one out.
