‘The Batman’ Director Matt Reeves Unveils The New Batmobile
by Erik Amaya
Call it a classic, but the Batmobile to be featured in the upcoming The Batman will definitely please long-time comic book fans.
The film’s director, Matt Reeves, took to Twitter to share some shots of the Dark Knight’s new set of wheels and the results are quite stunning:
The design may be recognizable to fans of Batman from the late 1970s and into the 1990s, when the car resembled a sleek speedster instead of the more theatrical designs of previous Batmobiles or the one featured in 1989’s Batman — to say nothing of the more outlandish vehicles in its sequels or the utilitarian tumbler of the Dark Knight trilogy.
A side view also gives the impression of a converted 1970s muscle car, which seems to fit the overall aesthetic of the film Reeves has revealed so far. Said to take many queues from The Long Halloween, the film stars Robert Pattinson as a younger Batman investigating the first big case of his career. That his suit and car would look more like build-outs of existing technologies than items wholly devised by Bruce Wayne reflects what we know about this Batman iteration.
Also, it just looks cool. And that’s important in a Batman tale.
Besides Pattinson, the film also features Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin and Andy Serkis as Alfred, alongside newcomer Jayme Lawson and John Turturro.
The Batman is set for release on June 25th, 2021.
