Fresh off of comic book collaborations with Poppy, Skillet, and Yungblud, Z2 Comics has announced its next music partnership, this time with Rise Records and Dance Gavin Dance for Robot’s Tale. This original graphic novel, written by Eliot Rahal and illustrated by Ian McGinty, utilizes the band’s animal imagery to tell a story through the perspective of its anthropomorphic antagonist as it discovers the universe is merely a simulation in which all living things are trapped. It sounds like a quirky version of The Matrix.
Z2’s Josh Frankel says:
Dance Gavin Dance is perfect for the world of comics. Their album art is every bit as interesting and inspired as their music, so visual storytelling suits them perfectly, and is guaranteed to be as rewarding to graphic novel readers as to the band’s fans. Eliot and Ian are the perfect team to bring this story to the page, and I can honestly say this is one of the most bats#@t crazy fun books we have published yet!
Robot’s Tale: A Dance Gavin Dance Graphic Novel clocks in at just over 100 pages and also features artwork from Masa Minoura. It will be available in a standard edition for $19.99 at comic shops and bookstores in May 2020 and a limited deluxe edition for $99.99 through the Z2 website. This version features an exclusive cover by album artist Matthias Adolfsson along with an exclusive colored vinyl edition of the band’s upcoming album, Afterburner, limited to 1,000 copies.
