The Legends Of Tomorrow Rewrite Shakespeare In A Preview Of Next Week’s Show

by Erik Amaya

Legends of Tomorrow has its fun with just about every genre, historical figure, and mythical creature it can find — which turns out to be great fodder for William Shakespeare when the team heads to the 16th Century. From this preview for next week’s show, it appears they give The Bard the idea for superheroes, leading to a very different from of Elizabethan drama. Will the team be able to convince him tragedies and comedies will have more longevity than tales of powered do-gooders?

Meanwhile, we have to say this week’s episode was a highlight. Neal McDonough hit all the right notes as Damien — he was funny, scary, and well-meaning even as he failed to see what Nora (Courtney Ford) really wanted. The lesser plots with Sara (Caity Lotz) and Ava (Jes Macallan), and Rory (Dominic Purcell) and Zari (Tala Ashe), were also quite fun, emotionally resonant, and oddly tied to the a-story. Also, who can resist a special appearance by Beebo or the Puppets of Tomorrow? We might as well add Gary’s (Adam Tsekhman) unspeakable train horror to that list of things the show has given us that we never knew we needed.
Then it culminated in a sweet wedding scene and Damien doing something something genuinely good for the sake of his daughter and the Legends. It’s a far cry from the person we met on Arrow all those years ago, but it is nice to get this sort of conclusion for a character like this. Hopefully, Nora and Ray (Brandon Routh) will have a happier finale when their time on the Waverider concludes next week.
Legends of Tomorrow airs Tuesdays on The CW.
