Since everyone needs a little bit of cheering up, here’s a potential bit of good media news: a live action Ahsoka Tano has reportedly been cast.
Slashfilm reports Rosario Dawson will play the Star Wars: Clone Wars favorite in the second season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian. Disney, Lucasfilm, and Ahoska’s creator, Dave Filoni, have all declined comment, but we’ll pick up this story and hope it is true because, let’s face it, the galaxy needs Ahsoka.
Introduced in the Clone Wars theatrical film, Ahoska (voiced by Ashley Eckstein) started as Anakin Skywalker’s annoying Padawan learner. But across six seasons of the Clone Wars animated series, she grew into one of the best characters in the Star Wars canon. Her story was cut short when Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm halted production on the series, but Filoni ultimately added her to the cast of the subsequent Star Wars Rebels animated series and continued her tale.
As it happens, we know from Rebels that she survives the Galactic Civil War and has a mission to fulfill in the period after Return of the Jedi — the same time period as The Mandalorian.
Of course, it is unclear if Filoni will use the series to tell this tale. But if it is the case, it is possible we will see other live action versions of animated characters soon.
The Mandalorian has been shooting its second season since just before the first debuted in December. It is expected to debut in October.
