Dig Into Wash’s Past & Present In ‘Firefly: Watch How I Soar’

by James Ferguson

Hoban “Wash” Washburne is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in Firefly. That’s saying something considering that the entire cast consists of fan favorites. He’ll get some more time to shine this November in his own graphic novel, Firefly: Watch How I Soar from BOOM! Studios, in collaboration with 20th Century Fox. Creators Ethan Young, Jorge Corona, and more dig into Wash’s life as pilot of the spaceship Serenity…just before he’s about to die.

Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios says:

From the moment we first met him playing with his toy dinosaurs, Wash has been one of the most beloved members of the Firefly crew, and Watch How I Soar gives us everything we ever wanted to know about our favorite hotshot pilot and space husband. We’re excited to explore this new ground that fans have been asking us to cover. Get ready for some very big stories you’d never imagine we could tell.

From the sound of things, Firefly: Watch How I Soar takes place at a very specific and heartbreaking moment in the movie Serenity. Wash’s life is flashing before his eyes and that’s where we’ll get into the most important, never-before-revealed moments of his past, from growing up on a planet ravaged by pollution to the extent that no star could shine in the sky to meeting the woman of his dreams in Zoe Alleyne. He’ll connect with a surprising someone in these final moments that he never thought possible.
Firefly: Watch How I Soar features a cover by Miguel Mercado. It’s set for release in November 2020.
