Hush Debuts In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Batwoman’
by Erik Amaya
Tommy Elliot (Gabriel Mann) has a new persona. And as this preview for next week’s Batwoman reveals, the media is calling him “Hush.” Is he yet another claimant to Lucius Fox’s journal? Meanwhile, Kate (Ruby Rose) tracks down Reagan and discovers Julia (Christina Wolf) is getting very close to Sophie (Meagan Tandy) — but is it just a ruse to get the well-known diary?
It is interesting to see the murder of Lucius Fox matter so heavily to the show — granted, it definitely needed some sort of recurring mystery once Kate settled into being Batwoman and Alice’s (Rachel Skarsten) story left her squarely as the villain. But it does leave some questions. Why is Alice safer at Arkham? You think the person she’s hiding from would have an easier time infiltrating the hospital than one of Alice’s many hideouts. Who does Julia really work for? If the SRR dismissed her six months ago, who hired her to get the diary? Is it the same antagonist Alice has been running from the whole time? Or, in what would be a worthwhile twist, is it Bruce Wayne?
But for all the questions this week’s episode posed, we have to congratulate it on some of the best fight scenes it’s committed to screen so far and for the scenes in which Rose got to inject some life into Kate. The fun she had with telling Luke (Camrus Johnson) they were going clubbing and the genuine bonding moment with Mary (Nicole Kang) felt so honest and light that we hope to see this side of Kate more often. Both the character and performer spend so much time in a gruff mode that it was genuinely refreshing to her do something else. Adding this element to the character may be something the writers will feature in the second season.
Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW.
