Will Iris Shatter In Next Week’s ‘Flash’ Season Finale?

by Erik Amaya

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, The Flash‘s sixth season ends with the 19th episode. Called “Success is Assured,” it sees Barry (Grant Gustin) engineering a risky plan to save Iris (Candice Patton) from the Mirrorverse. But as this preview for the season finale suggests, there may not be enough of her mind left to save.

According to the episode description, Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) will try to stop Sue (Natalie Dreyfuss) from “making a grave mistake that could destroy her life.” We’re glad to know some of the episode will focus on them as they’ve been the highlight of this later part of the season.
Take this week’s episode, for example, in which Barry, Iris, Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Frost (Danielle Panabaker) the Pied Piper (Andy Mientus) and Nash (Tom Cavanagh) all went through the same emotional journey. Now, it’s one thing to have serve two or more thematically consistent plots, but it’s an inelegant thing to have almost all of your characters express the same thoughts and hear the same pep talk from conveniently placed characters like Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) and Kamilla (Victoria Park).
That said, Cecile does a great job playing parent to all of these goobers. Additionally, Ralph’s more dour pep talk to Frost was a nice change of pace and more proof that he might be ready for a spinoff.
Or, at the very least, a greater focus as — even with the shorter storylines — Barry’s stories get repetitive real quick. Also, the Godspeed thread felt like such an obvious callback to Thrawne (also Cavanagh) that we’re glad the series will have an additional number of months to plan a new conclusion and map out a Season 7 with, ahem, legs.
The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW.
