‘Arrow’ EP Marc Guggenheim To Write ‘Prophet’ Feature

It looks like one of Rob Liefeld‘s other creations may finally make it to the screen.
Deadline reports former Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim will adapt Prophet for the Sony-associated Studio 8. Pulled from the pages of Liefeld’s Youngblood, the film will center on John Prophet, described by the site as “a DNA enhanced super-soldier placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken prematurely in the present, searching for a mission that does not exist.” As often happens to characters of this type, Prophet will be looking for his lost humanity; presumably while saving the world.
While Liefeld’s creator-owned comics are constantly in and out of development — indeed, Studio 8 has been developing Prophet since 2018 — characters he designed or co-created for Marvel and DC have made their way to the big and small screens in recent years. Deadpool, co-created with Fabian Nicieza, made his way to feature films in a big way — with star Ryan Reynolds suggesting there are “infinite” ways to integrate him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Deadpool sequel also saw Liefeld’s Cable enter the live-action realm. Over on the streaming end of the media landscape, his late-1980s redesigns of DC’s Hawk and Dove proved quite influential on DC Universe’s Titans, where the characters (played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly) don surprisingly faithful costumes.
Hitman: Agent 47‘s Adrian Askarieh will produce Prophet alongside Brooklyn Weaver and Liefeld. No release date has been set.
