Marvel To Release Free Comic Book Day Issues In July
by James Ferguson
We may have missed Free Comic Book Day this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the comics scheduled for release still exist. Marvel’s two titles, featuring the X-Men and Spider-Man, Venom, and the Black Cat, are coming our way in July.
Free Comic Book Day 2020: X-Men is now set for release on July 15th. Written by Jonathan Hickman and Tom Taylor and illustrated by Pepe Larraz and Iban Coello, the book leads into the X of Swords crossover event.
The following week sees the release of Free Comic Book Day 2020: Spider-Man / Venom from writers Donny Cates and Jed McKay and artists Ryan Stegman and Patrick Gleason, connected to upcoming storylines in Venom, Amazing Spider-Man, and Black Cat.
In some cases, the FCBD books are reprints or fun primers on characters, serving as jumping on points for new readers. These two are clearly the first steps towards major storylines coming up so the publisher is under a bit of a time crunch. Details will be shared with retailers soon with how to receive these titles as part of Marvel’s Back in Action program.
