Enoch Offers Key Support In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

by Erik Amaya

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may have preserved the timeline while saving Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj), but their trip to the 1970s will still be something of a culture shock for him … and, come to think of it, for the rest of the team as well. The Chronicom threat remains, as does the Hydra cancer inside S.H.I.E.L.D. Is it time for the direct approach May (Ming-Na Wen) uses in the preview below or will that further disrupt the timeline? Oh, also, Enoch (Joel Stoffer) finally rejoins the team after four decades!

But we have to wonder what Enoch’s disposition will be after the team failed to pick him up in 1955. He seemed pretty tired of hearing S.H.I.E.L.D. agent sob stories at the New York safehouse. And to a certain extent, the gang’s disregard for him even as they needed his help mirrored the drunken agent’s gripes. Will he unload his feelings of neglect on them after getting them out of this latest jam? Can he even express that sense of abandonment?
Meanwhile, May’s story continues to be fascinating. Thanks to her experience in the Shrike temple, she’s an empath now. The cost, of course, is her own emotions. They’re gone while she can access the feelings of others. It is an interesting place to take someone who kept her emotions so in check. Nevertheless, it is still possible there is something more Shrike to her new condition, which gives her scenes an interesting tension.
Another interesting tension is the way the plane jumps closer and closer to the present day. Presumably, the twenty-or-so year jumps will remain consistent, but with both Mack’s (Henry Simmons) team and the Chronicoms altering S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra history, will “the present” resemble what it was before?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Wednesdays on ABC.
