DC FanDome: ‘Gotham Knights’ Announced For Consoles and PC

by Sage Ashford

During DC Fandome, the studio WB Montreal finally got to unveil it’s latest video game, Gotham Knights.  The reveal featured a cinematic trailer where the heroes learn Batman is “dead”, and he’s leaving the protection of Gotham to his apprentices.   Despite concerns, Gotham Knights appears to be a single-player game that can be played with two-player co-op online, with four characters (currently) available, including Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing.

WB Montreal also brought us a seven minute gameplay walkthrough, featuring Batgirl exploring a surprisingly occupied city of Gotham, during a Mr. Freeze quest.   The combat indicates this is more of an action RPG, with customizable characters and loot to make every character someone players can make into their own person.
This gave us a glimpse at the co-op in this game as well, where Robin joined mid-session and worked with Batgirl to take down not just Mr. Freeze’s enemies, but Freeze as a boss as well.  What’s been confirmed is that despite the RPG mechanics, the game employs level scaling, and implies boss battles will play out differently depending on the level.
Gotham Knights will be available in 2021 on current-gen and next-gen consoles, as well as on PC.
