Animator and visual effects artist Jesse Mesa Toves has hit Kickstarter for his first full-length graphic novel, Encoding Bushido. The comic, funded in one day, was completed during the COVID-19 lockdown. The story sets the robotic siblings of a genius inventor against each other in a future where the virtues of he Samurai are forgotten. Along the way, we’re forced to wonder if a robot can be honorable.
The largest portion of the engaged audience for Encoding Bushido has always been the creative community and people who want to engage with the material on a different level. I wanted to provide that to all backers and newsletter subscribers through video – a lot like DVD extra features used to be.
Rewards for the Kickstarter campaign include digital and physical copies of the comic itself, prints, original art, and more. The campaign runs through October 15th, 2020.
