Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams And More Return For LEGO ‘Star Wars’ Holiday Special
by Erik Amaya
This year, Life Day is getting a whole new Star Wars holiday special with a few added fan-favorite voices.
According to TVLine, Star Wars vets Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams, and Anthony Daniels are among the people reprising their roles in Disney+’s upcoming LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. As with the original 1978 special, it sees the heroes getting ready for the Wookie Life Day ceremonies. But this time around, Rey and BB-8 are “hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history” while Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, Rose (Tran) prepare to celebrate aboard the Millennium Falcon.
The special will also feature the voices of Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ Matt Lanter, Tom Kane, James Arnold Taylor, and Dee Bradley Baker. Presumably, they will be reprising some of their roles as Rey’s adventure takes her back to the Clone Wars for a better understanding of the Jedi order.
The 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special featured the cast of the first film in a variety show which, to put it mildly, ended any chance of Star Wars on television for nearly a decade. The embarrassed stars share screen time with TV greats like Art Carney and Bea Arthur, but the execution left a lot to be desired.
Hopefully, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will mine some of that cringe for comedy even as it sets out to tell its own tale.
