Pick Of The Week: Recommended Reads From The Past Week’s Comics

by Olly MacNamee

We have juts the two new titles from our reviewers to recommend to readers this week. It’s as though something else was taking all our attention away from comics and onto something more pressing. But, for the life of me, I can’t think what that could be. So, if you do make your way out to your local comic book store, what should you be looking out for?

Wynd #5 (BOOM! Studios)

Written by James Tynion IV

Art by Michael Dialynas

Score: 10/10

Wynd #5 is a satisfying, skillful, confident conclusion to the title’s first story arc. It’s a golden combination of art, writing and lettering resulting in a powerful, emotionally resonant and rewarding read. May Wynd continue to soar.

In Wynd #5 we finally get to the action built up over the first four issues and it delivers a satisfying, emotional, and moving conclusion. Very few questions are left unanswered for when the story picks up again in Book Two: The Secret of the Wings in May 2021. – Cesareo Garasa

The Goddamned: The Virgin Brides #4 (Image Comics)

Written by Jason Aaron

Art by G.R. Guéra

Score: 8.5/10

Aaron and Guéra continue to impress on this radical revision of the Book of Genesis. Guéra – alongside colour artist Guilia Brusco –  paint a beautifully savage world at the dawn of time. A world of vast dangers and a world in which our plucky young heroes seem to be surviving in nonetheless. Although, it would seem for all their running, they still end up right back where they started from. Seems humans have been twisting the word of God to suit their own agendas since the primeval birth of humanity.

An aggressive world and an absentee landlord in God. Can our two virgin brides survive? With one issue left in this Heavy Metal like series, we just have a few weeks to wait for the  concluding issue in this newest chapter of this fascinating, violent reworking of The Old Testament.
