TB Digital Comic Con 2020: “It Does Not Have To Be A Bloody Masterpiece” – Ian Kennedy Documentary

Artist Ian Kennedy has been illustrating comic books for over 70 years and a familiar and friendly face at Thought Bubble year-on-year. As part of this yea’s online events Phillip Vaughan (Programme Leader of the new Concept & Comic Art BA Hons at DeMontfort University) interviewed the veteran comic book artist on his career this past summer. “This film looks at the extensive career of British Comics legend Ian Kennedy. From his early days as an in-house artist at D.C. Thomson, to his astonishing and diverse freelance career, which encompasses over 70 years as a comics artist! Ian Kennedy has worked for D.C. Thomson, Amalgamated Press, IPC/Fleetway and over the years has worked on Dan Dare for the Eagle, Battle Picture Library, 2000AD, Starlord, Starblazer and Commando. Ian still produces covers for D.C. Thomson’s Commando, of which he has produced over 1600! This interview took place at Ian Kennedy’s home and studio, just outside Dundee in August 2020″.
