Alfred Molina Reportedly Returning As Doc Ock In Third MCU ‘Spider-Man’

Alfred Molina may be something superior.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Spider-Man 2 actor will be reprising his role as Otto Octavius in the third Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film. He joins star Tom Holland, returning actors like Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, and Jaime Foxx, who also reprises his role from a previous Spider-Man movie series — Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The site notes various rumors and set reports from other sites indicated the actor might be back. They also note Foxx’s since-deleted Instagram post indicating the previous Spider-Man movie stars might also return as their versions of Peter Parker. Considering the possibilities of multiverses and alternate timelines joining the MCU, it would seem there is room for all of Sony’s previous Spider-Man efforts to be part of the great and grand show.

It also offers the Holland Spider-Man an MCU exit as he can go into hiding somewhere in the Spider-Verse. Also, because we loved The Superior Spider-Man so much, we’d love to see Molina voicing Doc Ock consciousness in a film dedicated to that premise.

Of course, Marvel Studios and Sony offered no comment on THR’s assertion of Molina’s involvement … but considering they won’t confirm an actor’s involvement after irrefutable photographic proof, this is a hardly surprising. What is surprising is Marvel’s willingness to honor the older Spider-Man films. Hopefully, it means the Marvel Television production will get a similar treatment some day.

The third MCU Spider-Man is set for release on December 17th, 2021.
