The light novel series 86 is receiving an anime adaptation,courtesy of A-1 Pictures (Fairy Tail). The story is set in a world where The Republic of San Magnolia and The Empire of Giad have been at war for several years.
The Republic has been overwhelmed because of the Empire’s robotic Legions, but more recently they’ve developed Juggernauts. Though it is believed these are autonomous robots, in reality, the Juggernauts are piloted by humans of the Republic’s 86th ward. These individuals have been forced to fight for the government while living in internment camps in the hopes of one day attaining a better future. The main plot follows a pair of characters who work together in a battle against the Empire, and along the way learn some truths about the war that were meant to stay hidden.
86 has been confirmed to be a single cour anime that will air in Spring 2021 and will be directed by Toshimasa Ishii (Erased) and written by Toshiya Ono (Gatchaman Crowds).
