Advance Review: ‘Streamliner: Volume 2 – All-In Day’ Will Give You Goosebumps

The Runaway Rebel Race kicks off with a bang as folks from all over the globe take part for a chance to lead the Red Noses gang and take over all this land. This is a high-octane race and each participant is leaving it all on the track. So many stories come to a head in this second and final volume of Streamliner.

Creator ‘Fane goes all out in this volume. The race is so heated and exciting that I literally had goosebumps as I was reading this book. The artwork perfectly captures the intensity of this action as the cars and motorcycles fly along the track at such high speeds. Parts blur with how fast they’re going, yet slow down at certain moments to capture the weight of a specific moment. It’s funny that this happens all with static images.

While there are a bunch of folks competing here, there are a handful that really matter in terms of the overall story. Each one is very capable of taking home the prize so it makes these pages so very interesting. ‘Fane plays out each of their stories on the racetrack, bouncing from one to the next while keeping the action going. Every single one of these is super interesting so there’s never a point where Streamliner lags. Just like the race, this keeps going at a nice speed.

Isabelle Rabarot’s colors work well with the intensity of the race. This is all going down in the desert and you can feel the heat coming down from the bright sun. We get a glimpse of the footage being shot by a local TV network at one point and everything shifts to a pale blue. This is the one section where you can catch your breath and we learn a bit more about some of the characters and their mindsets heading into the race. This contrasts well with their actions on the track.

If you have even a passing interest in the Fast and the Furious franchise, Streamliner is tailor made for you. It has all the action and excitement of a fast-paced race coupled with personal, compelling stories that work on multiple levels. This is a blockbuster level comic.
