‘The Marvels’ Explores Everything From Street-Level To Cosmic In April

by James Ferguson

Previously announced for a May 2020 release, The Marvels will now debut in April 2021. Marvel Comics has teased this as the “most sprawling series ever to hit the Marvel Universe.” Written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Yildiray Cinar, the comic will tell stories ranging from epic adventure to intense human drama, going from the street-level to the cosmic. Anyone in the Marvel Universe could show up including some never-before-seen superstars of tomorrow. It’s fitting that the series will feature covers by Alex Ross.

“The whole idea of The Marvels is to be able to use the whole Marvel Universe — not just all the characters in it, but all the history of it. The sweeping scope of the whole thing,” Busiek said when the book was first announced. “Big stuff can happen in the Marvel Universe, but we usually see it confined largely to the Avengers in Avengers, to the FF in Fantastic Four, and so on. The Marvels is intended as a freewheeling book that can go anywhere, do anything, use anyone. It’s a smorgasbord of Marvel heroes and history.”

While anyone could pop up in the series, we know for certain that Captain America, Spider-Man, the Punisher, the Human Torch, Storm, the Black Cat, the Golden Age Vision, Aero, Iron Man, and Thor will make an appearance. Two brand-new characters will be introduced. Also, who or what is KSHOOM?
