Ryan Wilder’s ‘Batwoman’ Baptism Continues In A Preview Of The Next Episode
by Erik Amaya
Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) may not be Batwoman yet. But as this preview for next week’s episode reveals, wearing it for one night has inspired her to do … well, something. And it’s clear she will be back under the cowl again, much to the surprise of Gotham’s #1 baddie. Will her encounter with Alice (Rachel Skarsten) be the baptism she needs to accept the suit full-time?
Honestly though, Leslie has already won the suit in our hearts. It’s clear why she got the role: she’s very comfortable in the costume. One would almost say she was born to wear it. Of course, it would be no fun if Mary (Nicole Kang) and Luke (Camrus Johnson) saw that immediately, so a story in which she earns it in their eyes is the right way to go. Although, after the speech she gave in the sewer, we are surprised Luke didn’t offer to help her immediately.
Also, at least at this point, it is unclear how the show can continue with characters like Sophie (Meagan Tandy) and Jacob (Dougray Scott) in the new dynamic. They’re so tied to Kate (Ruby Rose) that removing her removes much of their story. In fact, all of Jacob’s threads were tied up this week and we doubt it can build again with Ryan. At least with Sophie, there is the slight possibility she can move on, but … maybe we’re better off restarting with Ryan, Mary, and Luke?
That also means Alice, who clearly has a new story, should maybe finish her plot as well. We love her to piece, though, so hers would be the hardest goodbye. Well, assuming Leslie’s arrival will lead to more departures. First, her character still needs to embrace being Batwoman and, maybe, deal with the Kryptonite near her heart.
Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW.
