Catch A Glimpse Of ‘Marvel Behind The Mask’ In New Trailer
by Erik Amaya
As we’ve said before, glossy behind-the-scenes documentaries are a special sort of catnip and the upcoming Marvel Behind The Mask looks like it will continue that tradition. But if this trailer Marvel Entertainment released on Tuesday is to be believed, it will also take a deeper look at people like Jack Kirby, Christopher Priest, Larry Hama, and Kelly Sue DeConnick — key figures in the development of Marvel’s current roster who may not have received as much of the limelight as they deserve. That said, it could still be glossy and light, but any Marvel documentary willing to feature one of Kirby’s sons is something worth watching just to see if they acknowledge even a tenth of what happened between the company and the legendary creator.
According to an earlier press release, the film will focus on the company’s impact on pop culture and its use of the secret identity. As Marvel put it last month, “since the advent of the Marvel Age of Comics in the early 1960s, Marvel’s writers and artists have used the notion of identities to examine the evolving concept of equal rights. These legendary Marvel creations and stories have not only reflected the world outside our window – they have become a reflection of our own identities and who we truly are.”
Marvel Behind The Mask comes to Disney+ on February 12th.
