Rachel Zegler To Play Key Role ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’
by Erik Amaya
While much of the attention around DC Films lately centers on Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Black Adam, other productions continue to develop — like Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
The Wrap reports Rachel Zegler, one of the stars of Steven Spielberg‘s West Side Story remake, will join the Shazam! sequel in a “key role.” Naturally, the nature of this role is being kept undisclosed, but closer readers of Shazam comics — particularly the recent Geoff Johns run — are welcome to speculate.
Although, considering Zegler’s Columbian heritage and The CW’s recent decision to pass on a series starting the South American Future State Wonder Woman, Yara Flor, maybe there’s a Wonder Girl connection to be made?
Stars Zachary Levi and Asher Angel return, as does director David F. Sandberg. Writers Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan provide the script, which we imagine will follow up on the Mister Mind tease from the first film’s closing moments. We also presume it will feature the rest of the Marvel, er, Shazam Family now that Billy (Angel) has given them powers. Will that mean a rising conflict between Billy and his best friend Freddie (Jack Dylan Grazer)? No, wait, we’re thinking of Marvelman. Things should be peachy-keen between them.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods strikes theaters on June 2nd, 2023.
