Marvel’s ‘Heroes Reborn’ Expands & Concludes This June
by James Ferguson
Heroes Reborn is set to kick off in May from Marvel Comics and it’s clear that’s just the start of much more. The publisher has revealed some preliminary information about June’s issues for the event and its tie-ins. Heroes Reborn from writer Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness is set in a version of the Marvel Universe where the Avengers never assembled. Instead, the Squadron Supreme took their place as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Heroes Reborn #5 shows us a riot at Ravencroft Asylum as Nighthawk descends alone into a realm of madness. He’s surrounded by the most deranged members of his rogues’ gallery including his archenemy, the Goblin.
The following issue focusing on Power Princess, the daughter of Utopia as she’s defeated by the All-Gog, Gor the God Butcher and the King in Black. She must now venture into the ruins of Asgard where something unexplained is stirring in the graveyard of the gods.
Heroes Reborn #7 has Hyperion and Nighthawk facing their greatest challenge yet with a mysterious group of troublemakers called the Avengers.
That’s the main event, but there are a number of tie-ins coming too. Heroes Reborn: American Knights from writer Paul Grist and artist Christopher Allen follows Police Commissioner Luke Cage. He’s got one job: Find the scum and eliminate them before ambition takes them beyond the city streets. He’s backed by the Squadron Supreme to take care of criminals who have escaped justice.
Heroes Reborn: Night-Gwen from writer Vita Ayala and artist Farid Karami centers on Dr. Gwendolyn Stacy. By day, she’s Ravencroft Asylum’s leading psychiatrist, but by night, she’s the vigilante known as Nightbird. How and why did this happen? And what does the Nighthawk have to do with it?
Also coming in June is Heroes Reborn: Marvel Double Action. Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Dan Jurgens, this one-shot takes us back to the fateful night that changed the trusted partnership between Nighthawk and the Falcon forever. It’s the night Sam Wilson died.
In Heroes Reborn: Squadron Savage, Elektra leads a team of the world’s deadliest heroes. Written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Luca Pizzari, the comic deals with threats that require a more savage approach than the Squadron Supreme of America can offer. The Department of Defense has a team for that with Elektra, the Punisher, Crossbones, Cloak, and a new character called Murder Hornet.
Finally, we’ve got Weapon X & Final Flight from writer Ed Brisson and artist Roland Boschi takes a look at who’s protecting America’s neighbor to the north in Canada. Who will protect the people of Canada from the supremacy of the Squadron? I’ll give you a hint. They’re the best there is at what they do.
