This just in and happening today: Kim Dwinell, the writer and artist of Top Shelf Productions’ – an imprint of IDW Publishing – acclaimed middle-grade graphic novel series Surfside Girls, will be featured on the panel “Eco-Activism and Environmental Adventures” as part of School Library Journal’s virtual event, “Middle-Grade Magic,” a day-long celebration of authors and creators dedicated to crafting literature for children ages eight through twelve.
As climate change and tween activism remain ever-relevant, this panel will discuss books that center middle graders fighting for the world around them.
It is scheduled for today, Tuesday March 9th at 10:35am – 11:25am ET and registration is free. Sessions will also be available for on-demand viewing within 24 hours, and the entire event will be accessible for three months from the event date. So don’t worry if you can’t access it today. It is rather last minute and any educators wanting to get involved may not have the time to organise this with their other teaching commitments. .
Whenever you do get to see it and share it with your students, eher’s who will make up the pane alongside Kim Dwinelll:

About Surfside Girls:
“Surfside Girls, Top Shelf / IDW’s critically acclaimed middle-grade graphic novel series, is packed with sun, sand, and spooky mysteries, rooted in the power of friendship and the fascinating history of Southern California. Coming in summer 2021, the third volume in the series, entitled The Science of Surfing: A Surfside Girls Guide to the Ocean, will follow best friends Sam & Jade — and Sam’s annoying little brother Peet — on a wide-ranging journey to learn about ocean science. Together with the Surfside Girls, readers will explore the physics of waves and weather, the wild world of marine biology, strange ocean phenomena, practical lessons on how to surf, and how to take care of our watery planet.”
