Ed Piskor Announces ‘Red Room’ FCBD Issue And Series From Fantagraphics

by Olly MacNamee

As part of this year’s line-up of free comic books to be distributed on FCBD 2021 is Ed Piskor’s Red Room. Coming from Fantagraphics, the FCBD issue will be preceded by The Red Room #1, which will come with three variant covers and 63 pages of content! The new series is planned to run to twelve issues in total.

You may know Ed Piskor from his seminal, Hip Hop Family Tree, or even from his work with Marvel on X-Men: Grand Design. A real fanboy turned comic book creator, Piskor’s Red Room #1 will launch Wednesday May 19th, with Red Room Free Comic Book Day coming on Saturday August 14th.

Here’s Piskor’s take on his bonkers creator-owned horror comic:

“Red Room is a cyberpunk, outlaw, splatterpunk comic that you can’t unsee once you feast your eyes on the mayhem. Think of Red Room as modern day E.C. Comics, infused with the dream of Black Mirror. These are subversive, stand alone stories that are all part of a larger, twisted narrative.”

As for the new series…

“The series will be told through a series of interconnected, stand alone stories, focusing on unsavory characters that lurk in the most grotesque corners of cyberspace. The murders are a mystery, the victims unknown. Aided by the anonymous dark web and nearly untraceable crypto-currency, business is booming and the viewership is ever-growing.”

And while many FCBD offering will be reprints, Piskor’s will feature all new content from cover to cover. And come out juts as the first four issue story-arc winds up. What’s more, he’s even dialled back the content to make his FCBD comic PG-13.

And, if you haven’t yet caught Piskor and co-hots and fellow comic book creator, Jim Rugg, on their YouTube channel, Cartoonist Kayfabe, then what are you waiting for? It’s a great podcast that takes a trip back in time to review comics from their collection. Two friends waxing lyrical about comics from their formative years. Great fun.
