Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, And Justin K. Thompson To Direct ‘Into The Spider-Verse’ Sequel
by Erik Amaya
Two new directors will be joining Joaquim Dos Santos in the Spider-Verse.
Variety reports the DCAU and Voltron: Legendary Defender veteran, along with Oscar nominee Kemp Powers, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse production designer Justin K. Thompson, are directing the upcoming sequel. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg all return as producers. Lord, Miller, and Shang-Chi‘s David Callaham will pen the script. Although Powers and Thompson have been involved as directors for sometime alongside Dos Santos, their participation only became known today.
Plot details are, of course, under wraps, but it is easy to presume Miles Morales’s (Shameik Moore) story continues and, possibly, we’ll get more from Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). It is unclear if the other characters who returned to their own realities will return. Then again, anything is possible in the magical world the first film presented.
It will be interesting to see how the trio works with the style established by Bob Persichetti, and Ramsey and Rodney Rothman — the directors of the first film — it was new and continues to impress whether one watches the film on streaming or in glorious 4K.
The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel is set for release on October 7th, 2022.
