It’s Finally Prom Night In A Preview Of Next Week’s ‘Supergirl’

Nia (Nicole Maines) and Brainy’s (Jesse Rath) trip to 2009 continues as Prom Night closes in on them. Will they be able to escape the intergalactic big game hunters with ease? Will young Kara (Izabela Vidovic) be able to tell the truth? Will young Cat Grant (Eliza Helm) get her story? Or will time and space collapses in on itself, leaving Brainy no other option but to snack into oblivion?

We’re going to say it, the Legends of Tomorrow energy looks good on Brainy and Nia. Rath, in particular, felt like he was trying out for the team. At the same time, heading back to Midvale for a young Kara and Alex adventure allows the show to do a proper Supergirl story while Melissa Benoist continues her hiatus and Kara remains in the Phantom Zone. Both Vidovic and Olivia Nikkanen continue to impress as younger versions of Benoist and Chyler Leigh, and after last nights episode, we see no reason why they couldn’t play the parts full time in a few years. Which is all to say that the show feels more like itself than it has in weeks despite the clear injection of Legends-style humor.

Also, as we suggested last week, Kara’s Phantom Zone story was starting to run long, so a two-part flashback story with no need for Phantom Zone updates is a great way to distract us from the main plot for an additional couple of episodes. And with the talent on display from the regulars and the guest cast, it is a welcome distraction. But will it mean Kara returns at the conclusion of next week’s show or will we need to wait a little longer?
