Jeremy Irvine To Join HBO Max ‘Green Lantern’ Series As Alan Scott

Treadstone veteran Jeremy Irvine may soon wield Green Lantern‘s light.
Deadline reports the actor is in talks to join the HBO Max series as Alan Scott, the original Golden Age Green Lantern. The program, devised by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith, will tell the parallel tale of Scott in the 1941 — wrestling with being both closeted, a FBI agent, and a Green Lantern — while in 1984, Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock) wields the power ring among other members of the Green Lantern Corps like Bree Jarta (yet to be cast).
Scott first appeared in 1941’s All-American Comics #16. As devised by Martin Nodell, who developed the broad strokes of the entire Green Lantern concept, he was a railroad engineer who happened upon a mystical lantern. Instructing him to make a ring in order to harness its power, the lantern gave him wondrous powers that can do just about anything, but have no effect on wood.
In 1959, Julius Schwartz would update the concept with the lantern and ring becoming the science-based badge and weapon of an intergalactic police force. Scott’s status within the Green Lantern Corps wavered for decades, but it seems he will be a full-fledged member in this interaction of Green Lantern.
Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Grahame-Smith will serve as executive producers alongside Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, David Madden and David Katzenberg. Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi are aboard as co-executive producers.
It is unclear when the series will go into production, but the ramping up of casting suggests it will be soon.
