Dwayne Johnson To Voice Krypto In ‘League Of Superpets’ Film

Dwayne Johnson is going from anti-villain to goodest boy in his next DC Entertainment adventure.

Variety reports the Black Adam star will lend his voice to Krypto in the upcoming League of Superpets animated feature. The film is based on the team of super-animals who first appeared in 1962’s Adventure Comics #293 — although most of the animals themselves all appeared earlier in various Superman titles. Krypto, Superman’s best pup, leads the crew, which includes Beppo the Super-Monkey, Streaky the Supercat, and Comet the Super-Horse. Others, like the Legion of Superheroes’ Proty II, joined later. Making occasional appearances in Legion books, they disappeared from the DC Universe following Crisis on Infinite Earths. Although, they have worked their way back into the mainstream continuity now and again. And with out-of-continuity stories inducting characters like Ace the Bat-Hound and Batcow into the group, the film could be quite lively and diverse.

Jared Stern is aboard as writer and director with Sam Levine signed on to co-direct. Johnson will also produce the picture, further extending his grasp within the DC Multiverse. And it seems the hope is to see some of his friends voice the other super-animals. No matter who voices the characters, though, production is underway with the film already slotted for a May 20th, 2022 release.
