Adi Shankar’s ‘Captain Laserhawk’ Netflix Series Remixes Ubisoft Games

There were several big announcements as part of Netflix’s Geek Week. The Castlevania universe is expanding with a new spin-off series centered around Richter Belmont and set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. There are plans for animated adaptations of Ubisoft’s acclaimed game franchises of Far Cry and Splinter Cell.

Castlevania Executive Producer Adi Shankar announced another Ubisoft inspired show titled Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The series, animated by studio Bobbypills, features alter egos of Ubisoft characters in a highly referenced homage to the early ’90s. Adi Shankar has proven to be a unique creator, from his make-up laden screen persona, his Bootleg Universe of fan films, to his commitment to quality video game adaptations.

Five years ago it was inconceivable to have a narrative driven adult animated series based off of video game properties featuring a gay protagonist. Times are definitely changing for the better and I look forward to the new wave of adult animation this inspires.
