by Richard Bruton
Art For Art’s Sake – What would you say to a selection of gorgeous looking comic art gathered up from the Internet and capped off with a selection of music-related artwork from the great Serge Clerc?
Yep? Well okay then…
Katushiro Otomo – Akira
Dave Gibbons – Action Comics #601 – the very first of the weekly issues
Walt Simonson – Alien
George Perez – a couple of those crowd shots – I used to love these when I was a kid. In fact, I still do!
Archie #1 by Colleen Coover
And also by Colleen Coover – Bandette…
More Bandette, this time it’s Bandette and Inspector Belgique with art from Steve Lieber
Batman – Justin Mason
More of the Bat – Matias Bergara
Dan McDaid – weirdest Batman team-up for a long time – it’s Bananaman and the Bat
Daredevil – Tom Reilly
Deadpool by Jason Pearson
Drew Struzan – the original 1990 painting for Duck Tales The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
Chris Samnee – Emma Frost
And two from Gemma Correll about that pandemic experience
And finally for today… a little music artwork… all triggered by this one from Mike W Kaluta covering Moster Mash that I had no idea existed at all.
And then almost the next thing I saw online was this bit of gorgeous Serge Clerc art of Blondie…
Serge Clerc, for those who aren’t aware, is one of the masters of stylish French comic art. After getting his start in Métal Hurlant in 1975, his magnificent retro-styled, elegant and classy work began appearing far and wide, including the British music magazines New Music Express (NME) and Melody Maker. He’s also been responsible for a for amount of album artwork.
Sadly, the only one of the NME music strips I could find was this one… Spandau Ballet, Chant No. 1…
Now, more music art from the wonderful Serge Clerc…
NME Promo art…
More Blondie…
The Cramps…
Joe Jackson…
The Clash…
And various other bits of music-related stuff…
And a few album covers…
